An important goal once set was reached by 980 students in the College of Business as they received diplomas at the Summer 2017 Commencement at Florida International University (FIU). Family and friends gathered to cheer and congratulate the graduates at two ceremonies held Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center located at FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus.
At the afternoon commencement, 457 students from the Alvah H. Chapman Graduate School of Business received a master’s degree. Two students were awarded a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Business Administration: Dale Alan Dejong (PhD ’17) and Mingyu Zhang (PhD ’17, MS ’11).
At the evening commencement, 521 students from the R. Kirk Landon Undergraduate School of Business were recognized for earning a bachelor’s degree.
At both ceremonies, President Mark B. Rosenberg welcomed those gathered and offered his congratulations to FIU’s newest alumni. For the first time, the new dean of the business college, Joanne Li, presented diplomas to the graduates.
Three faculty members from the College of Business performed The National Anthem and the FIU Alma Mater: S. Christopher Ellis, Donald Roomes and Louis Melbourne.
College employees add degrees to their list of accomplishments.
Jacqueline Herrera Alonso (MS ’17, BS ’12), a program manager for the College of Business Department of Marketing and Logistic, earned a Master of Science in Marketing degree.
Alfredo Doimeadios (MIB ’17, MBA ’16), a program coordinator in the MSIRE and MSF Programs department, received his Master of International Business degree.
Veronica Herrera (MS ’17), a graduate assistant in the College of Business Department of Marketing and Logistics, earned a Master of Science in Marketing degree.
Lina Lopez (BHSA ’17), an assistant in the Office of Global Initiatives, was awarded a Bachelor of Health Sciences Administration degree.
Jesus Padilla (MS ’17, PMBA ’11, BS ’08), a program assistant at the Pino Global Entrepreneurship Center/Florida SBDC, earned his Master of Science in Marketing degree.
Kimberly C. Rapp (BS ’17), a program assistant in the Office of Executive & Professional Education, earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice degree, with a minor in Public Administration. She also earned a Certificate in National Security Studies.
Clementina Valladares (MS ’17), received a Master of Science in Marketing degree. She is a program coordinator for the College of Business Department of Marketing and Logistics.
Stephanie Villalba (MS ’17, BS ’16), a graduate assistant in the College of Business Department of Marketing and Logistics, earned a Master of Science in Marketing degree. She has been hired as the program coordinator for the Global Sales Lab.
