A proud audience of friends and family watched proudly as over 1,200 FIU College of Business students received their degrees at three Fall 2018 commencement ceremonies on December 11 and 12, 2018 at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center. More than 400 graduates of the Alvah H. Chapman Graduate School and over 800 from the R. Kirk Landon Undergraduate School were awarded degrees from the college.
FIU Business Dean Joanne Li and FIU President Mark Rosenberg greeted the graduates as they walked the stage. The ceremonies also recognized five FIU Business Worlds Ahead honorees, accomplished students who met unique challenges in the course of their lives.
At the December 11 Chapman ceremony, a doctoral degree in Business Administration was awarded to Haoran Zheng. His dissertation was titled Contextual Affordances of Social Media, Clinical Process Changes and Health Services Outcomes.
At the December 11 afternoon Landon School ceremony, which included students from FIU’s Chaplin School of Hospitality, Carnival Corp. president and CEO Arnold W. Donald addressed the graduates.
At the December 13 undergraduate ceremony, W. Allen Morris, chairman and CEO of The Allen Morris Company, one of Florida’s largest real estate developers, addressed the graduates, delivering advice on moving forward with a successful life.
“Habits you decide to make your own, commitments you decide to make your own, priorities you decide to make your own, values you decide to make your own, and goals you decide to make your own, will determine the direction of you,” he said.
Staff members add a new degree to their accomplishments.
Savannah Brea, alumni relations assistant in the College of Business’ Office of Development and Alumni Relations, received a Bachelor of Business Administration, with a major in Marketing and a minor in Business Analytics. She will remain with the development office in a full-time role as administrative coordinator.
Cooper Eisinger, admissions assistant at the Chapman Graduate School, received a Bachelor of Arts degree, double majoring in Political Science and International Business, with a minor in History. He will attend law school in the fall.
