More than 1,100 students in the College of Business Administration at Florida International University (FIU) graduated in Spring Commencement ceremonies on Tuesday, May 1, 2012. In the afternoon, 746 business students received their bachelor’s degrees; 411 graduate students, two of them new PhDs, graduated in the evening.

Four new Worlds Ahead Graduates come from FIU Business.

The Worlds Ahead Graduate designation singles out individuals with strong leadership qualities, a desire to change lives and a record of academic achievement.

Four FIU Business students received this prestigious recognition.

First-generation college graduate Ileana Maria Canizares (BBA ’12) majored in international business and management, plans to earn an MBA from FIU, then pursue a career in the Foreign Service. She was active in both the International Business Honor Society (IBHS) and Future Business Leaders of America – Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) and is a member of Sigma Alpha Lambda, a national leadership and honors organization.

Bruno Cevallos (BBA ’12), who graduated magna cum laude with majors in the college’s finance and international business programs and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in the College of Arts & Sciences, completed three internships in addition to his three majors. Chapter president of FBLA-PBL for two years, he is a financial analyst at JP Morgan Chase in New York City, where he previously participated in the Financial Analyst Leadership Program.

Juan Camilo Zambrano (BBA ’12) majored in business management and marketing and served as president of the FIU chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA), leading the group to its rank as the International Collegiate Chapter of 2011. He also was in charge of several marketing campaigns through AMA for Chevrolet, March of Dimes and Donate Life America; was one of three students selected to establish the Student Leadership Group for officers in the college’s student organizations; and was a member of FBLA-PBL.

Otto Padron (DTMBA ’12) earned his Downtown MBA following a 20-year career as a television executive—including as senior vice president for programming at Univision Network—and a tour of duty in Iraq. In March, he took the reins of KWHY and serves as president and COO of Meruelo Media Holdings Inc., revamping the news team, adding 10 hours of weekly news programming and dramatically reducing paid programming.

College extends special congratulations to its hard-working, hard-studying employees.

Nineteen employees in the business school were among the graduates, completing degrees across an array of majors and programs.

Ramon Batista (BBA ’12), student assistant, Department of Management and International Business, received a Bachelor of Business Administration with a double major in human resource management and business management.

Shannon Crane (BA ’12), student assistant to the executive dean, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in public administration, a minor in English and a certificate in Japanese studies.

Steven Crowe (MA ’12), office assistant in the Center for Leadership, received his Master of Arts in Asian studies.

Geninne del Oso (MBA ’12, BBA ’10), accounting coordinator, Finance and Administration Department, earned her Master of Business Administration in the college’s Evening MBA (EveMBA) program.

Sarycarmen Diaz Gonzalez Salas (MIB ’12), teaching assistant in the Department of Marketing, received a Master of International Business.

Justin Garcia (BBA ’12), a student assistant in the State Farm Financial Literacy Lab (SFFLL), received his Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in finance.

Narine Harrylall (BS ’12), senior lab assistant in the college’s Technology Center, majored in mechanical engineering, receiving a Bachelor of Science.

Jacqueline Herrera (BS ’12), program assistant, International MBA (IMBA), International Graduate Programs, earned her Bachelor of Science in journalism and mass communication. She will become the program coordinator.

Shaun Hoyes (MBA ’12), associate director, SFFLL, graduated from the Corporate MBA program.

Natalia Marco (BBA ’12), a financial student assistant in the Finance and Administration Department, received her Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in finance.

Nelis Mir (MS ’12,  BBA ’10), administrative coordinator, Department of Management and International Business, graduated with a Master of Science in hospitality and tourism management.

Angelica Navarrete (BA ’12), student assistant, International Programs, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major of economics, a minor in international relations and a certificate in Chinese.

Maria Rincon (BBA ’12), student assistant of administration, received a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance and international business.

Elise Rodriguez (MS ’12, BBA ’82), associate director, Career Management Services, was awarded a Master of Science, majoring in human resource development.

Robert Rodriguez (MBA ’12, BBA ’09), program manager, Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER), earned the Corporate MBA.

Carlos A. Santos III (MBA ’12, BA ’04), program manager, Professional MBA Flex and Evening MBA Programs, graduated from the Professional MBA Downtown program.

Stefan Schins (BS ’12), network administrator in the college’s Technology Center, received his Bachelor of Science in information technology.

Claudia Suarez (BA ’12), course developer, received her Bachelor of Arts in psychology.

Joseph Yeber (HCMBA ’12, BS ’10), coordinator, Special Projects and International Programs – Healthcare Management, graduated from the Healthcare MBA program.
