School of Accounting

Elio Alfonso, assistant professor, received the PhD Project/KPMG Minority Scholarship Award with his completion of the PhD in Accounting.

Department of Decision Sciences and Information Systems

Nancy Borkowski, clinical associate professor, was presented with the Jessie Trice Hero Award for 2013, for her advocacy, leadership in the community, and support and guidance for the Health Choice Network of Florida’s Health Care Quality Institute (HCQI).

Richard Klein, associate professor and Knight Ridder Research Fellow, co-chaired the “Healthcare Information Systems and Technology” track at the Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS 2013) in Chicago, Illinois in August.

Department of Management and International Business

Jerry Haar, professor, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Miami Entrepreneurship Center. Haar was also quoted in a WLRN.com article, “How Miami (and the U.S.) are Becoming Latin America.”

Nathan Hiller, associate professor and Knight Ridder Center Research Fellow, recently had his paper “CEO Career Variety: Effects on Firm-Level Strategic and Social Novelty” accepted for publication in the Academy of Management Journal. He was recently appointed as PhD program coordinator.

Sumit K. Kundu, professor and James K. Batten Eminent Scholar Chair in International Business, co-authored the recently published book Operating in Emerging Markets: A Guide to Management and Strategy in the New International Economy.

Curba Morris Lampert, assistant professor, co-authored a paper, “The second face of appropriability: Generative appropriability and its determinants”, that was published in the Academy of Management Review. The paper received the Best Paper Award Innovation Management from the Strascheg Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SIIE) at EBS Universität and MikroFORUM.

Modesto Maidique, professor and Alvah H. Chapman Jr. Eminent Scholar Chair in Leadership and executive director, Center for Leadership, co-authored the article “The Six Competencies of a CEO” which was accepted for publication by Leader to Leader. He presented the second annual Alvah H. Chapman Jr. Outstanding Dissertation Award in collaboration with the Network of Leadership Scholars at the 2013 Academy of Management conference in Orlando, FL.

Fred O. Walumbwa, who recently joined the college as Knight Ridder Professor and faculty member of the Center for Leadership, received the 2013 Journal of Management High Impact Award for his 2008 paper “Authentic leadership: development and validation of a theory-based measure.” The award is given for the top five papers in the last five years, based on number of citations, breadth and quality of the papers/journals citing each paper, total downloads and perceived quality and potential for continued impact. Walumbwa also co-authored an article, “Accounting for the Influence of Fairness on Task Performance: Integrating Self-determination and Social Exchange Theories,” which was recently published in the Journal of Management Studies.

Department of Marketing

Paul W. Miniard, professor, co-authored an article “Retailers’ use of Partially Comparative Pricing: From Across-Category to Within-Category Effects” which appeared in the Journal of Marketing.

Jayati Sinha, assistant professor, co-authored an article “How Time Horizon Perceptions and Relationship Deficits Affect Impulsive Consumption” which appeared in the Journal of Marketing Research.

Tibor and Sheila Hollo School of Real Estate

Bill Hardin, director, was quoted in an article “Five years after financial crisis, housing market boom back to Miami,” in Xinhaunet. Hardin was also quoted in two other articles in China Daily.

Ken Johnson, associate professor, was quoted in the article “South Florida home prices increase for 18th straight month” which appeared in the Sun-Sentinel, Bloomberg/Businessweek, and other publications, and in the article “Florida launches program to aid underwater borrowers,” which appeared in the Tampa Bay Times and Bloomberg BusinessWeek.
