Manny Pravia (MST ’92), adjunct, presented a two-hour seminar on “U.S. International Tax Concepts” to the Valle del Cauca Chapter of the Asociación Nacional de Empresarios (ANDI) in Cali, Colombia on November 15, 2013.


Department of Decision Sciences and Management Systems

Monica Chiarini Tremblay, Debra VanderMeer and Gloria Deckard, associate professors, presented “Capturing the Adoption of the Direct Standard for Health Information Exchange: A UML Approach” on November 18, 2013 at the American Medical Informatics Association symposium, Washington, D.C. At the same conference, Tremblay and two colleagues also presented “Crossing the Early Adopter Chasm for Health Information Exchanges.”


Department of Finance

Shahid S. Hamid, faculty director, Master of Science in Finance program, was a panelist on Issues, airing November 15, 2013 on WPBT-TV, discussing the potential impact of climate change on the South Florida real estate market.


Department of Management and International Business

Konstantinos Grigoriou, assistant professor, co-authored “Structural Microfoundations of Innovation: The Role of Relational Stars” which was accepted for publication in the Journal of Management, November, 2013.

Jerry Haar, professor, has been invited by the International Academy of Management and Business (IAMB) to become an honorary member of the IAMB Advisory Board for three years. In addition, an article by Haar, “Iran and its Proxies: a Growing Threat in Latin America,” appeared in the Latin Business Chronicle on November 25, 2013.

A November 21, 2013 article in Business News Daily entitled “The Secret to Career Success: Branding Yourself” was devoted to Nathan Hiller’s presentation at this year’s Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Hiller is associate professor and Knight Ridder Center Research Fellow.

Curba Morris Lampert, assistant professor, co-authored a paper, “Paradigm-Changing vs. Paradigm-Deepening Innovation: How Firm Scope Influences Firm Technological Response to Shocks” in Organization Science on November 14, 2013.
Lampert also served as track chair for the CLADEA Conference “Technology and Innovation Management” in Rio de Janeiro in October, 2013.

Ronaldo Parente, associate professor, organized and co-chaired the 48th Cladea Conference in Rio de Janeiro, October 20-22, 2013. Cladea is the Latin American Counsel of Business Schools with 191 institutions as members.

Seema Pissaris, professor, was quoted in a Miami Herald article entitled “South Florida social entrepreneurs aim to solve society’s big challenges” appearing November 18, 2013.

Dileep Rao, clinical professor, is a contributor to the Forbes website and wrote a blog entry on November 18, 2013 entitled “Should Universities Become Entrepreneurial Campuses?”

Marc Weinstein, clinical associate professor, appeared on the Pete De La Torre radio program on 880 The Biz on November 14, 2013, discussing issues surrounding workplace harassment and the Miami Dolphins player conflict.


Department of Marketing

Maria Garcia, assistant professor, was quoted in a SunSentinel article on November 2, 2013 entitled “Group of ‘Close Friends’ in South Florida makes it on the Web.” Garcia also was a judge for the 2013 Google Awards (Mexico).

Carlos Parra, clinical professor, was a speaker at the “Financial Inclusion in Latin America: Collaboration, Innovation and Technology” forum in Miami. The event was hosted by the Americas Society/Council of the Americas on November 5, 2013.


Tibor and Sheila Hollo School of Real Estate

Bill Hardin, director, was quoted in a Miami Herald article by John Dorschner entitled “Rising sea levels, falling real estate values” appearing November 9, 2013.

Ken Johnson, associate professor, was quoted in a SunSentinel article entitled “Homebuyers looking for luxuries as market rebounds” on November 9, 2013. Johnson was also quoted in a Palm Beach Post article entitled “Palm Beach County rental income may grow corporate profits,” which appeared November 15, 2013.
