You could call it speed networking—with a global collegiate twist.
The recent International Consultants for Education and Fairs (ICEF) event held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Key Biscayne, Florida, gave representatives from the Chapman Graduate School of Business the chance to meet one-on-one with 80 prospective agents from around the world.
Participants hailed from every corner of the globe, including Australia, China, Colombia, India, Japan, Nigeria, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Vietnam.
“The interest in the school was tremendous,” said Priscilla Ferreira (MSHRM ’06, MBA ’00), senior manager, graduate recruitment. “We had approximately 20 minutes to talk with each agent about the strengths of our graduate business programs. The agents were particularly interested in specialized masters degrees.”
Anna Pietraszek (EMBA ’06), director, admissions and recruitment, joined Ferreira in representing the Chapman School at the event.
In addition to the personal meetings, the college helped sponsor the Agent Lounge and hosted a College of Business Administration booth. FIU Business has participated in previous fairs but the South Florida location provided an excellent opportunity for greater involvement and sponsorship.
Part two: agents tour the campus.
As part of the ICEF event, more than 30 agents headed to Florida International University’s (FIU) Modesto A. Maidique Campus for a Familiarization (FAM) Tour and Lunch.
The participating ICEF agents clearly liked what they saw.
“Our agency is very keen to work with the university and we are looking forward to sending some Malaysian students to FIU,” said Janet Wong, principal consultant, Carlton Education Network, Malaysia.
Kenneth Ilalokhoin, CEO, Global Networks Educational Services Company, Nigeria, is looking forward to a “hugely successful relationship.” He left with a “wonderful impression of FIU’s business school, particularly the State Farm Financial Literacy Lab.”
Haitam Giat, Yes Atlas, Saudi Arabia, agrees.
“The FAM tour was great and it left a good impression about FIU,” he said.
ICEF connects educators and student recruitment agents to key markets and networks worldwide, helping them achieve results and efficiencies in growing international student enrollments.
